    A qualified electrician attends your home, assesses the work and provides a transparent, fixed quotation based on the safest and most practical solution.

    We arrive on time, work cleanly, follow regulations and keep you informed throughout. Our approach is Practical, Professional and Punctual from start to finish.
  4. Testing & Certification
    All work is fully tested, documented and certified to UK standards. You receive the correct installation or safety certificates for your records.

When Electrical upgrades or inspection is recommended

Nulectrics recommends professional assessment if you notice any of the following:

  • Frequent tripping or blown fuses
  • Dead or non-responsive outlets
  • Warm or buzzing sockets
  • Flickering or dimming lights
  • Burning smells or discoloured fittings
  • Wiring older than 25–30 years
  • Renovation or extension plans
  • Installation of high-load appliances; EV chargers, electric showers, Saunas

Domestic Electrical FAQs

We install, maintain and repair the fixed electrical systems in homes — including wiring, consumer units, sockets, lighting, smart controls and EV chargers.

We also ensure everything meets current UK safety standards (BS 7671) and provide certification when needed.

In the UK, you can legally carry out very limited minor electrical work in your own home without calling an electrician, as long as it does not involve new circuits, work in special locations, or modifying the fixed wiring.

Under Building Regulations Part P, the following jobs are generally considered safe and permitted for homeowners:

Permitted DIY electrical tasks

You can usually do the following yourself:

  • Replace existing switches, sockets or light fittings like-for-like
    (same location, same type, no changes to wiring layout)
  • Change light bulbs
  • Replace broken or damaged faceplates
    (e.g., swapping a cracked switch plate — not the wiring behind it)
  • Install or replace battery-powered smoke alarms
  • Fit low-voltage lighting (plug-in type)
  • Use extension leads, smart plugs and plug-in appliances

Important to note: These tasks should still be carried out with the power isolated and basic safety precautions taken.

The short answer is, everything else (see FAQ above).

Installing a new circuit

  • Rewiring or altering existing circuits
  • Consumer unit (fuse board) replacement or upgrade
  • Adding sockets, lights or switches to new locations
  • Any electrical work in:
    • bathrooms (zones 0, 1 or 2)
    • kitchens involving fixed wiring
    • wet rooms
    • outside (garden, garage, outbuildings, EV chargers)
  • Electrical work in walls containing insulation or metal studs
  • Hard-wired smoke/heat alarms
  • Installing electric showers, cookers or other high-load appliances
  • Any work that requires testing and certification

Even if a job looks simple, if it alters fixed wiring in any way, it must be tested and certified to BS 7671.

The rule of thumb

If the job involves fixed wiring, new cable, or anything near water, leave it to us.
If it’s just the faceplate or a bulb, you can legally do it yourself.

We recommend a full inspection (often called an EICR) every 10 years for homes. If you’re renting out your property, it should be every 5 years or at change of tenancy. Bigger changes like extensions, new wiring or high-load appliances may require an earlier check.

Yes. Domestic electrical work must comply with Building Regulations Part P and wiring regulations (BS 7671). A fully qualified electrician (like us) will handle the required notifications, issue certification, and ensure your installation is legal and safe.

Look out for signs like flickering or dimming lights, regular trips or blown fuses, warm sockets or switches, burning smells or outdated wiring (rubber, fabric or aluminium).

If you’re putting in high-load appliances (kitchen, EV charger, sauna) or doing major renovation — you likely need rewiring or upgrades.

We remove the old consumer unit, replace it with a modern unit containing RCBOs or MCBs, install RCD/surge protection, test and certify the new installation.

This improves safety, resolves overloads/trips and future-proofs your home for modern loads.

Costs vary significantly based on job size, home age/condition, number of circuits/outlets and difficulty of access.

The way we work is to give you an estimate which can change depending on a site-visit or when we come to do the job. Estimates are a better foundation for job costing as we prioritise the highest quality of work for safety and longevity of the work done.

These guys are fantastic, can't recommend them enough. As others have said, the attention to detail, quality of their work and how they interact with their customers is first class.

We found them by chance on a dark wet night when everything that could go wrong was. We'd just come back from a tough hospital visit only to find driving rain had got into our roof and by a freak of bad luck, followed a direct route straight into our main fuse box and taken out all our power.

Nulectrics came out that night and made it safe and then spent the next day or two putting it all back together. They also found and fixed numerous other issues with our electrics and completed a full certification and test.

We now have every confidence that all is now good, and we will certainly be using them again for all future electrical work.

I have used Nulectrics twice in the last 2 years, for an EICR and remedial work that came out of it, and more recently repairing a broken junction box.

AJ was quick to respond and arranged for his team visit. The electricians carried out all work to a high standard, were very professional and courteous. They checked with us before carrying out any loud work so that the baby wouldn't be startled, which was a really nice touch.

I needed to replace some recessed spotlights in my bathroom and contacted Nulectrics for a quote. They were very quick to quote and also to respond to some follow up questions I had and minor amendments to the scope of the work to add a dimmer switch.

Whilst there was a delay of a few weeks before the job could take place I was happy to wait since there was no urgency over the summer period. When the job was undertaken the two electricians who completed the work were both friendly and very tidy and careful. The replacement sealed LED units look great and the dimmer control works well.

I work from home and whilst they were here I had to take a number of calls - the electricians were always very quiet when passing my study so as not to disturb my work which was appreciated.

Overall I'm really pleased with the job and would recommend Nulectrics - I would use them again.

I like to use businesses close to home and support smaller companies and Nulectrics Ltd are almost on my doorstep.
I can't rate AJ and his team highly enough. From his initial review of the jobs I had identified and further recommendations based on observations, through to the electricians and apprentice doing 2+ very long days of work their attention to detail, cleanliness of my home/garden and ability to keep me informed of progress was exceptional. Only miss was them turning up unannounced one afternoon to finish off some little tasks, thankfully I was home.
The full report of all the electrics in my home (a recent purchase for me) has identified some historic poor workmanship and risks of failure or even fire. Very grateful I asked them to look at the potentially dodgy external wiring I could see as it has thrown up issues with work I can't see.
Will recommend to anyone who asks, and will bring up in conversation with those who don't!

So impressed with Nulectrics Ltd! After many phone calls to disinterested electrical companies AJ kindly paid a visit to my parents to inspect a faulty electric fire. Extremely helpful and professional to a fault. Would highly recommend.

In a word, Brilliant! My elderly father needed a fused spur fitted for his central heating and the guys did an excellent job. They arrived exactly when they said they would, they were very polite and professional, they took great care to check everything and then when they finished their work they even hoovered up!
Needless to say, I highly recommend Nulectrics for any electrical work needed in the home.

We had a fault last winter where we had a fault with one of the sockets and AJ was able to quickly attend to us and isolated the issue, replaced the wiring and socket in a very professional and timely manner. What impresses me most is AJ's responsiveness, and his eagerness to provide valuable advice. We highly recommend them and will surely be using their services again.
